My First Knife:
1985 my grandfather Jones, in rural Kansas, took me walking along the railroad tracks in search of rail spikes. Back at the farm he piled coal in the center of an iron wagon wheel forge. I cranked the blower while he heated the spike and hammered it on the anvil. He then cooled in water and had me sharpen it on a pedal grinder.
